Amarnath (Jammu and Kashmir), June 28 : Pilgrims visiting he Amarnath cave shrine in South Kashmir have expressed isappointment over the rapid melting of the naturally formed ice talagmite, which is regarded as a symbol of Lord Shiva.

N K Raina, the Director of the Amarnath Shrine Board, said the talagmite has been reduced to a tenth of its original size.

"The last time we measured the 'Shivalinga' on May 25, it was 12 /2 feet tall and its circumference was eigth feet. Now, it has educed to almost one-tenth of its original size. It is melting very fast and something will have to be done very soon," he said.

Nothing they can and should do about it... it's a natural feature and process of the cave... should be left alone and hope that it will re-emerge the following winter.
Big Brush Creek Cave in Utah has one similar (if not larger) and it comes and goes ... depending upon if the conditions that cause it to form are met.

Some people take things a bit too seriously.
