Req - joining surveys / expeditions

Postby canadianhero » Jan 21, 2006 7:49 pm

I am a cave lover located in canada.

I have been caving locally in the small karst features in Manitoba and have taken may trips over the years to do wild cave tours in S Dak, Kentucky, Ohio and New Mexico

I am very interested in joining survey / expedition teams as a volunteer

Are there any opportinities to join such trips out there?

I am planning a trip back to the Carlbad area again this spring/summer

See if you can hook up with the CRF (Cave Research Foundation). They have projects/expeditions all over the place.

You could always check out the Fern Cave Survey. http://www.hiddenworld.net/fern/index.htm

If you are interested email me off board and I can give you dates and contact info.

Great to have you around, Somebody has to do the work to make the maps.

Have you contacted any of the Canadian groups?

Probably the eastern USA options are nearer/cheaper/nicer than coming out west... but, we DO have an annual exploration camp called Speleofest (not the Kentucky one; I know, I know) in western Canada which is a great event and concentrates on new explo, so always has opportunities for surveying. You may need to be competent on SRT/frog/rebelays tho, depending on where it is this summer...
