journalist seeking noteworthy caving expedition

Postby egilsdorf » Dec 2, 2005 12:48 am

I'm a journalist (Boston Globe, Washington Post,
travel guides) and I specialize in adventure travel. I'm always on the lookout for new story ideas, and have an amateur interest in caving. I'm hoping someone might know about newly discovered caves, known
caves still unexplored, or any particular exciting/unique expeditions being
organized that might be amenable to a journalist tagging
along and make a great story for a national publication.

For it to be newsworthy and appealing to an editor and an audience, the expedition or discovery definitely needs some element of being unique --- "the last unexplored cave in xxx" or "retracing the steps of so-and-so explorer," or "site of this famous spelunking accident/mishap", or "never before attempted traverse of the xxx cave," that sort of thing. Could be in the US or abroad.

Any thoughts on anything that fits this description coming up soon?

Feel free to email me directly at ethan@ethangilsdorf.com with any leads.

Thanks for any advice anyone might offer.
