There are no 'good' digs.

Just kidding of course. We've alot of caves here that have been extended by digging. But I'm not a very good storyteller.

I have several diggs waiting for us to return. Since I started having kids, the dig trips have become rare. If anyone wants to come to NE TN to help, maybe that will motivate me get back at them. One dig has potential to connect to Mammoth and Lech!

Lech -> Mammoth

Yeah, we're working on that one too.

Here's a story I wrote as a eulogy for one of our late members, Walt Rubeck.

I've used a blowtorch to dig before. Works pretty good. If you just need to shave a little bit off an odd angle spot, just heat it with the torch and smash it with a hammer and it shatters off about a 1/4 inch or so.

Well it is a 'dig' into the entrance of a 500m deep cave.

Members of the Alberta Speleological Society, primarily Jason Morgan (in the pic), have been working on Heavy Breather, which has now been bottomed but awaits full surveying. The pic is from last spring, an impatient snow-dig into the entrance which subsequently enlarged from the draught. The most recent trip (a month ago) was turned back by weather/snow so surveying the bottom will have to wait until next year. The cave has 30 pitches and some are quite wet in spring; and yes the water is cold...

Hopefully the full story will appear in an upcoming Canadian Caver.

Ian,

Is Paul Hadfield in your neck of the woods and still active? I knew him in Europe 30 odd years ago.

Funny you should mention Paul; I've just re-established contact with him after his e-mail address went dead some time ago. I'll PM you with his new contact info.
