North GA cave trip

Postby Andy Shoun » Aug 6, 2007 9:18 am

Hey out there. I have some time off work and friend who wants to have some fun before going back to school. We were thinking of doing some north GA caving on Monday and maybe Tues Aug 13-14th. We are good for 6-12 hrs trips and I'm pretty comfortable in Pettijohn's and Anderson Spring. Anybody want to go, or have any other suggestions?

Howards waterfall is not too far and if you set it up in advance with the folks at Cloudland Canyon state park, you could do Sittons or Case (now with a vertical entrance). All are fun caves.

I believe Sittons and Case are both closed during August.
You should be able to verify by going to the Ga DNR website.
I love to join you guys - I've never done Anderson Springs - but I have to work both days.

It has been awhile since I've been to Sitton's. Last time I was there, they had a nice parking lot. What is up with the closure? Is Cloudland actively managing the site?

Yes - Case was just re-opened this year, and part of the reopening included a managment plan.
There are many limitations access, including number of trips per day, number within a party, and months that the caves are open.

During the week hardly ever works for me, but I would love to do Anderson's Spring again...I really enjoy that cave.

OK, no one on the hook so we have decided to head to Tsali and go paddling and mnt biking instead. I'll try to get back over to GA on a weekend sometime. Next time.
