Exciting news from Tainxing, China – 983 meters deep!

While we were in China last week on our SW Karst geology/hydrology tour, it is my understanding that a group of largely British cavers connected Lanmu Shu Dong to Qikeng Dong. Lanmu Shu Dong had been connected to Liuchi Aokou Xia Dong last year. This forms a 19,024m long system which is 983m deep ending at Qikeng's terminal sump.

I am sure there will be a lot more to follow as the official announcements are released. Congratulations to all involved!

Qikeng Dong was already the deepest cave in China at 920m deep. The connection to Lanmu Shu Dong adds to the upstream end to make the system 983m deep.

This is a Hong Meigui Caving Club exploration effort (Erin Lynch – Yangshuo via the US). Duncan Collis (Yangshuo via GB) and Marcel Nawrot (Poland) made the connection.

Details will be posted on the Hong Meigui web site: http://www.hongmeigui.net/
