New cave discovered in California's Marble Mountains.

Hello Everyone,

We have some exciting news to share with you!

Last July, Bruce White, David Kestell, Doug Warner, Gilly Elor and Peter Hartley went ridge walking on the Marble Mountain Karst (above the Bigfoot system). We discovered a very small crack with a significant wind blowing through it. After much effort (and much destruction of clothing) we managed to squeeze through! On the other side we discovered water flowing down a series of climbs and pits. We dubbed the cave "Eurocrem Hole" after the Croatian treat Bruce and Doug had brought with them. In September we returned to Eurocrem, now joined by William Hunt and David Weaver.

We are currently in the process of surveying and digging in Eurocrem. Current survey depth is about 250ft which does not include some active downstream leads. We will keep everyone posted about any exciting new developments!

All the Best,

That's great! Hope long is the cave so far? The wind sounds super! Do you have pictures to post?

Must not be too high of elevation (= cold). That's a lot of bare skin on rock!!! :yikes:

As the first one who put bare skin to rock, I can attest that the temp was about 35F with strong blowing wind when I took off my shirt while standing at a 4' tall snow bank. It was, shall I say, bracing. :yikes:

The alternative, as we discovered, was sacrificing your polypro shirt to the very grabby rock

That definitely looks like it needs enlarging. Perhaps William Hunt can oblige. He certainly knows how to make a superb activation
device for enlargements .

Atleast I know there are others losing skin to find some virgin too! Gotta love a hot shower on some fresh cave rash. :flamed:

Funny you should say that - Willie was there. And we did have an enlarging device.

I'm really hoping you find another entrance or a connection to another cave, 'cuz I think the odds of me fitting thru that crack are pretty much nil, unless I get some ribs surgically removed...

I wouldn't want to get there and then realize it doesn't open up any so I could turn around  . Besides that I'd be all over it.

How does an "enlarging device" work, does it scrape rock off the sides or is it a jack of some sort? It seems difficult to do either.
