Krubera-Voronja Cave

Postby Downundercaver » Mar 19, 2011 1:29 am

Does anybody know how I can go about descending the whole depth of this cave as I am planning to climb Mount Everest (highest point on earth) then descend the Krubera-Voronja Cave (deepest cave on earth) aka so I then would have travelled to the bottom of earth (ok not the marina trench but still deep) and the top. I dont know if anyone has done both these feats (if you have heard know of anyone that has let me know) pretty much the point of this topic is to get information on how to get permits etc to descend the cave and also if it is even allowed.

If you succeed I promise to take your photo...go and have it enlarged into a poster with you standing triumphant on a mountain .....and then make it into a motivational poster.

The only problem is that Mount Everest/Chomolungma/Sagamartha will be the highest mountain on Earth for the forseeable future (in human terms) whereas the cave depth record is likely to change.

That's the beauty of caving when compared to mountaineering: we just don't know home many more caves (or parts of known caves) remain to be discovered and explored. But I can tell you this: there are a lot!

Greetings.
2 teams work in Voronja cave every year: Ukrainian Speleo Association (Ukraine) and Cavex team (Russia). Dates: july-august.
Ukrainian cavers work mainly in Non-kujbyshevskaja series (-1700).
See cave profile

Some pics from 2011 expedition: http://speleoukraine.org/Forum/Read/thread_id/6

Expenses.
It's usually cheaper to go with ukrainians. This year expedition consisted of 4 men. Expenses: $600-800 per person.
Add to that plane ticket to Moscow (Russia) or Kyiv (Ukraine) and plane/train ticket to Sochi (south of Russia, abkhazian border).
Find out whether you will need visa for Abkhazia or Ukraine. You would definitely need visa to Russia.
Looks to me like you would total around $2 000.

You can reach Yurij Kas'yan: kasyan_yura at mail.ru for details.
