Mystery Falls - February 18 or 21?

Postby Extremeophile » Feb 3, 2011 12:18 am

So I'm going to be back east again for a Mammoth Cave trip on the 19-20 but have a day before and a day after. I'm flying in and out of Nashville. Anyone planning a trip to Mystery Falls, or want to join me for a trip there?

Also open to other trips with space for one more. As always I'll have survey gear, wetsuit, vertical gear, ropes. Post here or PM me.

Not even Marion has done every pit in TAG. You would have to go caving every day for 50 years and know the location of every
pit in Tag to do them all. And you still would not have done them all because there are new ones that haven't been registered or
even found yet. But they are there, and news ones are found all the time. Your post should be posted in the Joke Forum. :notlistening:

There are only 50-100 plus classics. most pits are not well known as you state.

Define "classic TAG pit".

BTW BrianC, derekbristol did not say he had done every "classic" pit in TAG (I think there are more than 100 anyway), he said
he did EVERY PIT in TAG. That's why I said

What are you doing at Mammoth?? CRF stuff?
It only takes one person to surrender a dog to a kill shelter ,but it takes many to rescue it.

Yes, surveying in Mammoth Cave. I'll be setting yet another new world record for longest cave, which is a nice compliment to completing all the pits in TAG :big grin:

And I suppose you will have seen every inch of Mammoth too, right?

We need a new emoticon that shows a big head that grows bigger and bigger and bigger until it explodes.

BTW derek, are you a CRF member?

Just having a little fun tncaver. Don't worry, you are most certainly not "in the presence of greatness"... unless you count yourself.

I think I'll plead the 5th.

I lived in OH back in the 90's and participated in many expeditions with CRF, and also visited many of TAGs classic pits - though not quite all. Now that I live in CO, and actively caving again, I'm trying to take advantage of any opportunity to cave back east. This will be my 4th trip to cave country in the last 8 months. You're very fortunate to live in such a spectacular caving region.

:kewl: Derek, you pushed my buttons, dude. Humor is good. We need more of that here on Cave Chat. I've never considered myself to be a great caver. I've never had the stamina or desire to do a drop over 600 feet. I hope you enjoy your MF trip. :big grin: MF = Mystery Falls. Seems lots of cavers from the
great white North are heading South these days. I plan on hosting a few Northern cavers later this year. Enjoy the caves while you can and I hope our caves will be open forever. At least most of them still are.

Consider moving down here Derek, so that you can influence our state Conservation Department and the TWRA to open the state owned caves back up. Mammoth is not all that far from TN. Might make for a shorter commute when you are helping extend the longest cave in the world. I keep trying to find one like Mammoth
here in TN but no luck so far. :cavingrocks:
