Where is it? Sounds like Germany or Switzerland.

It's in Germany:

Google translation:
On the steep southern slopes of the mountain hop Schenk, about 1 km from Dienstedt away to the northeast, about 340 m above sea level. NN and 23 m above the Ilmspiegel, are the Dienstedt karst caves. They were formed by leaching of the Ur-Ilm 2-5 million years ago. The soil conservationist and local historian Dienstedt Felix Gebser (1907-1988) discovered after several unsuccessful excavations in the mid fifties a cave on the upper field.

Peter, it is easy to find info on that cave via google. Having been caving in Germany from 1975 to 1978 I was curious why I hadn't heard of that cave before. Now I know why. Dienstedt is located in the former East Germany. That area near Thuringen is well known as a caving area and I think there are numerous commercial caves there.

What is your interest in it? There are a couple of German cavers who frequent this forum, too.

One web site mentions "fossilized dinosaur jaw" -- most interesting!

Peter, I don't know the Dienstedter Höhle - mainly because I'm living in Southwest Germany and Thüringen is at least a 5-6 hours drive away. But I could post some specific questions you might have in the German Caving Forum and translate the replies. I know that there are several cavers from Thüringen in that forum.

Best regards,

Jürgen

I've been looking for the Dresden web site. It seems to have changed servers.

Here are some websites with information about the Dienstedter Höhle:

in English - look for "Karsthöhle Dienstedt":
https://www.showcaves.com/english/de/index.html

in German from the local community:
http://www.gemeinde-ilmtal.de/karsthoe.htm
