The Colorado Cave Rescue Network (CCRN) will be hosting a two day seminar on April 10 and 11, 2010 titled Introduction to Cave Rescue. This will consist of both classroom, hands on training and an in cave mock rescue. The Saturday portion will be classroom learning and hands-on training at the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department in Colorado Springs http://www.pprbd.org/ . The seminar will start at 8:00am with students learning about underground first aid, hypothermia, patient packaging, communication and transportation. Crevice rescue and practice will be included in the curriculum this year.
Sunday’s portion will be an in cave mock-rescue held in a local cave on Cave of the Winds property. Please bring a sack lunch and be ready to head underground for the day. You will get a chance to test what you learned the day before, in the real life challenges of a cave environment. All participants must supply their own food, water, and caving gear to include helmet and 3 light sources.
The Saturday session will have lunch available on site for a fee. Water and soda will be included in the price of lunch. Registration begins in January 2010 through the CCRN website www.coloradocaverescue.org/ . Registration is limited in number so please sign up soon if you plan to attend. The cost of the seminar will be $30 for registrations received before April 1st, when the price will increase to $35.
