Bloomington NCRC Intro Course in March

Postby caverdoc » Jan 18, 2006 11:10 pm

Anybody going? I've been cheap labor on several rescues so I thought I'd better start taking some NCRC training!

I'd love to go help teach, but alas, don't think the wife will sign off on yet another long weekend away from the kids.

But definitely go for it. I've found even experienced cavers can learn a lot.

I'll be there. I've done some vertical training with the guy teaching the course and he's really good.

He is.

But if he challenges you to a race through Buckner's.... just say no!

I guess "running" that cave once a week tends to give one an unfair advantage

Well the fact that he does it for exercise and to get ready for long trips is quite amusing.

Wel of course. And think we'd take away his fun with the newbies? Of course not. :-)

Seriously, the person in question is a quite cool guy.

Just ask him about his experience with Grape-Nuts

I don't think I've heard the grape-nut story yet. I'll be sure to ask him when I see him next.

i'm just back from the one at carter, and i'd still love to go to the one in bloomington. the week-long seems like it'd be a good time too. if only it weren't so far away and so expensive and so ...tempting.

FYI - In addtion to OCRs, there are two NCRC week-long training seminars scheduled this year (as of now).

The national week-long will be held in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico from April 8-15. Registration closes March 22.

The South Central Region will be hosting a regional week-long (level 1 and 2) in Bend, Texas from February 20-26. Apparently you can still register this close to the course, but any payment made now is non-refundable.

See http://www.ncrc.info for more details.

Cave safe!

Hah! Wasn't that about the same time he had a massive domestic with his "girlfriend" inside the cave as part of a Mock scenario?

I've got the time off, sent my money and am definitely headed to Bloomington. Even have a room paid for at the hotel offering the group discount. I plan to leave Kansas Thursday night after work and drive as far as St Louis, then finish drive the next day. Hopefully I can hook up with somebody in the Bloomington area to drop a pit or two late Friday.
Will drive back to KS on Monday.

Found out yesterday I've got my leave approved for the July British Columbia Cave Rescue course on Vancouver Island (Gold River). Have made arrangements with the course instructor (who gave me my "formal" training in cave rescue in Montana and Idaho) for travel from Vancouver. Then we're both headed to NSS Convention in Bellingham. Wow! Mega caving week followed by spending my kid's inheritance! Should be a fun two weeks+ living out of a duffel (just like being back in the Army...)

I should be in Bloomington all day Friday and would be up to doing some pits or other caving before the seminar
