NCRC Regime Change...

Postby shibumi » Feb 4, 2009 7:00 am

After ten years of giving much to NCRC, John Punches has stepped down as
National Coordinator of the National Cave Rescue Commission. During his
tenure John oversaw significant improvement in NCRC, riding herd on an
occasionally contentious Board of Regional Coordinators, taming a financial
mess, helping bring professionalism to the curriculum, and increasing NCRC outreach.

John's tenure as NC is the longest NCRC has had. This speaks well to how
well liked he is. John is still retaining the coordinatorship of the Pacific
Northwest Region, where for many years he was the only NCRC instructor,
recently joined by Jansen.

I (Anmar Mirza) will be replacing John as National Coordinator. I've been the
Central Region coordinator for eight years and will not be running for CR position
again when it comes up this summer. I hope to continue the progress NCRC
has seen, and to keep on in our mission of serving the caving community.

A great big 'attaboy' to Mr Punches. And, a big  to Anmar for stepping up.

Anmar- I am looking forward to working with you as National Coordinator, my friend. The BORC supports you and will be there to help you fill John's shoes.
No reflection on your abilities to do the job, John's is going to be a tough act to follow. If anyone can fill the roll put before them, it is you! :woohoo:

Thanks Tim. I agree, John set a very high bar. It was that in part that made me think long
and hard about undertaking it. But, since he and I share a brain, I think it'll be ok :)

We have a great BORC right now, and this is about the best time as far as the entire NCRC crew really
working together well, so hopefully I'll have an easier time of it than John did in his early
tenure.

Congratulations Anmar, you do have big shoes to fill.
I'm not sure how sharing a brain works. The only thing that comes to mind is Steve Martin's "The Man with Two Brains". :tonguecheek:

Look forward to seeing you and everyone else at the National weeklong this year.

As the saying goes, "A mind is a terrible thing to waste". So Anmar and John share one.

And I for one support my new cosmic overlord. :yikes:

Oh and slight correction, Jansen still belongs to us in the the Northeast Region!

Hey, you all have TWO instructors. Don't get greedy.

Anyway, didn't we vote Jansen "instructor at large" which sounded better than "regionless."

Hey, we actually have THREE now, don't sell us short!

And how about Instructor w/o Portfolio?

Ah yes, two halves of one brain.

Hmmm... well, yes and no.

That's probably more accurate. My primary grotto now have me listed as "member at large" because they never know where I'll pop up next!

Right this moment I'm back in the Western Region, and I even managed to pull off an OCR these last 2 days without damaging anybody too badly. I love it when a plan comes together. :big grin:

Anmar - congratulations on your "promotion" and good luck with the new job. If you need anything, just ask. Or more likely, if I need anything I'll just be asking you!

Words can't express how much I've appreciated John's assistance and advice time and time again. His shoes will be tough to fill, but I think if anybody is up to the job it's you.
