The Mock went pretty well.
It was at New River cave and for those of you that have not been to this cave getting up the slope
to access the entrance is a BITCH!!!
Our group was the first on scene and did most of the IC duties.
Usual Mock Rescue, lots of confusion in the beginning, but it really settled down nicely a few hours in to the event.
I was entrance control for most of it. I finally got into the cave around 4:30pm and the patient (Anmar) was moving very well at that point.
Lots of litter handlers (at the end we had 50 folks in the cave) and the rigging was ready to go. When the Ferrno got to a rigging-point, it was clipped in and went. The patient was out of the cave at a few minutes before 8pm.
It was a lot of fun. We did not make it back for dinner ‘till 11pm.

Cave Emergency Preparation
WSLS NewsChannel 10
Jun 22, 2007

Members of the National Cave Rescue Commission have been camped out at the Roanoke Valley Regional Fire and E-M-S Training Center all week.

Today they put their training to the test.

"It's as real as we can make it. We have fake patients who have gone into the cave this morning for the students to locate," the training coordinator, Steve Hudson, said.

Craig Robertson, a Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Worker, is a part of this week's training.

"Today is the big culmination of putting everything we've learned this week together," he said. "There's a lot of caves around. Fortunately the general population doesn't know about them, and that's one reason why we have few cave rescues."

And if there's ever an emergency, he says Roanoke will be ready.

"I think for our initial response, we'll be able to do a whole lot more."

Yes, but I would rather be hanging on a rope.

When can we expect to see the photos posted online? My girlfriend wants to see proof that I was at NCRC, and that my bruises aren't from mud-wrestling a violent stripper...

Thanks for all the hard work from those helped put on this seminar! I had a great time, and am still digesting all the knowledge (and wonderful food) from the past week.

I suspect that most folks will post their links to this forum when they get their photos up loaded. Keep checking back.

Tell your Guy that I said “Hey”.
We EXPECT you to join in more and post on CaveChat!

Berta really enjoyed my tails recounting the time spent around camp.
We all really need to get together soon.
Be safe,

Made it home is an understatement for me.

Got back to my apartment in DC Saturday afternoon. Then Scott, Nate and Pat picked me up, and since I knew the area, I drove up to NYC where we drove in and dropped Pat off (so I got to drive Scott's monster truck from DC, up INTO NYC and back out.... a LOT of driving).

Scott took over and I got home at 4:00 AM Sunday. Surprised the heck out of my wife! (In a good way though.)

Kids were SO glad to see their daddy after 2 weeks. Unfortunately then had to catch the 3:15 train to get back to DC.

So, got home, and then home and then home again. :-)

Had a great time, but I need another high rope to continue the "Fat Boy Club".

Still doing laundry.

And still trying to catch up on sleep.

Great time all.

Interesting to hear the mock was in New River Cave. We had a few live rescues from there back in late 70's and early 80's, one got the rescue call of the year award from Virginia EMS (Giles County EMS and VPI cave club). I remember that hill, it was a bear to climb with a pack of gear.

I can also remember doing a geography project where I spent a weekend at the entrance (with only a space blanket for comfort) logging where each visitor was from that entered the cave. Lots from Virginia, but a surprising number from North Carolina and Tennessee!

Yeah we made it back about midninght saturday night. The reason we made it back so late was we went & bounced Catawba Murder Hole before heading home.

Then we got up bright & early sunday morning to drive 4 hrs one way to pick up the kids & then turn around & head back home.
It took me all day yesterday just get things caught back up at the house & unpack the truck.

I will post some pics from the trip later. NZcaver has the ones from the mock .

Hey Carl I wonder where that pic for your avatar came from ? :-)

From your lovely wife of course… She took some great pictures.
For folks reading this who weren't there, we all had "mug shots" taken for our records.

It was good to meet you Rodney.
I really enjoyed myself at the weeklong, it was a blast.
and I even learned some stuff. :kewl:

It was definitely good to meet everyone, and come to find out some for the second time. I too learned a lot, well worth it.

Ended up caving Saturday at Clover Hallow (correct name?). We only went down the drops and played a little in the passages without pushing to the end, nice short trip.

I wish I had a chance to check out New River Cave, but ICS kept me out of the cave. Stupid upper management. A least I had the rare opportunity of towing the shitter back, it’s a dirty job but someone had to do it.
