Dangers of exploring Mt . Rainier in Washington state

Postby Ernie Coffman » Feb 6, 2016 11:53 am

A nice article on the dangers of exploring Mt. Rainier in Washington state; and, how some SAR and cavers are gathering information to provide info on what to do and where not to go if caught in a storm up there at the 14,000' level. A couple of NSS honchos are pushing this for National Geographic, as well as to provide safety information to those who climb there.

BTW, I will add that Eddy Cartaya is the Western Region Regional Coordinator for the NCRC. Glad to see him making the news!

I believe John Punches is still the Coordinator of the Pacific Region. I'm not sure what Eddy is doing, but know he's involved in a lot of the glacier projects, like on Mt. Rainier and Mt. Hood.

Thanks for that update David. I knew he was involved, but hadn't seen when they switched Eddy to take over John's position, which he held for a number of years.
