Oh no, I definitely meant stiphon! Perhaps I should say it's an advanced item only taught in CERTAIN Level 2s. ;-) And only by certain instructors.

Well, we're starting to see more interest and more registrations.

Have you registered yet? If not please so. The earlier we can start planning on numbers the better.

And remember, if you have questions, (like travel, what to bring, what not to bring, etc.) please let me know.

Hey Greg,
We are trying to order a T shirt in the merchandise portion of the on line registration form, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do it. It just states that you must do it before hand to get it. Is it too late? We don't see a box to check with a price or size option.

You're the second person to report that. I'll have to go into the system and figure out what is going on.

What I would suggest is go ahead and complete your registration now and you can add a t-shirt later (or talk to me and we'll figure out a way to get you a t-shirt and charge you for it.)

Ok figured it out. Should be able to buy shirts now. Problem fixed.

Get your friends to pay for your Week-long Cave Rescue Class

Postby Stridergdm » May 7, 2013 8:45 pm

That's right.

Why pay to learn cave rescue when you can get your friends to pay for it?

Starting tonight and ending once we reach 75 students, for every friend you convince to register, we will pay you $50 (up to 10 friends).

This means if 10 of your friends attend and give us your name when they register, we'll refund $500 of your registration fee. In fact since we're in a generous mood, we'll even credit you the last $25. This means you have the opportunity for your friends to pay your entire way!

Here are the guidelines:
• They have to use your name when they register and they must attend (there's now a field on the registration page)
• Only the names of individuals can be used for referral, not agencies
• Up to 10 referrals are allowed per person
• Offer ends when we get 75 students registered or June 1st, which ever comes first
• You’ll receive your refund at the seminar
• We reserve the right to end this offer early w/o warning
• Oh and of course YOU have to be registered and attend too

Think of what you can do with an extra $50 or $100 or more. You can buy that caving pack you always wanted. Or extend your NSS dues another year. Or save enough to also be able to attend next year in Colorado.

So register now and THEN convince your friends to sign up (before they sign up first and reap all the savings for themselves.)

Cave Rescue Class Thoughts

Postby Stridergdm » May 14, 2013 11:23 am

I had an interesting discussion with someone the other day. I was asking them what their plans were for attending the cave rescue class.

Their response, "Oh, I'm going to wait until it's in TAG again."

Now, I can appreciate that sentiment. I mean I'll admit TAG has a nice cave or two. And the camp is certainly comfortable.

But, I had to point out to them, that currently the next time the week-long Cave Rescue Class is scheduled to be at Camp Skyline is possibly in 2016.

This year it's in NY (in case you hadn't noticed my previous posts ;-)

Next year (2014) it is scheduled for Colorado (and I definitely encourage folks to start giving that thought)

In 2015 there's a very strong possibility it'll be in the Kentucky area.

So the earliest it'll be back at Camp Skyline will be 2016.

The "3 times in 5 years" at Camp Skyline was pretty much a fluke. So, certainly understandable if TAG is easier or more convenient for you, but please keep in mind it's certainly not an every other year sort of thing in the normal course of events.

And keep in mind you have 4 years to move on to the next level or else you have to start all over again.

Just some thoughts.

Just one correction to Greg's last post: you have 4 years to move on to the next level in NCRC, but if you don't make that timeframe you don't have to start all over again, just repeat the last level you took.

I'd like to assure people that this year's seminar in New York will happen. Steve Hudson (the Training Coordinator) and I discussed this and even though the numbers are lower than we'd like, we will make the seminar work. Point in fact this is a great opportunity to get more one on one and hands on time as smaller classes allow more learning opportunities as everything moves more quickly.

I can't wait!! New York will be a new state for my "caved all states" list!

Greg, what kind of cave conditions can I expect? Will it be hot, humid and in the 70s (in cave) or can I find a place to cool off?
