Cave rescue, not Caver rescue

Postby Stridergdm » Apr 1, 2012 12:07 pm

In an interesting turn, the 1st Antimony Park Rescue Interagency Liaison today announced that their local cave rescue team is changing their rescue focus. They believe that the local cave rescue team is either improperly named, or performing the wrong function.

Mr. William N. Cyndroom said, "For years the team has been rescuing cavers, but upon reviewing the charter, we realized that the group was formed as a CAVE rescue team, not a CAVER rescue team. As a result, they will be directed no longer to rescue cavers, but to focus on the rescue of caves from the abuse caused by cavers. Among other things, this will mean the immediate closure and gating of all caves in the local District. This will be the first step in rescuing the caves."

He did go on to remark that if cavers are stuck in any caves, they will be removed, no matter how many trips it takes, in order to protect the integrity of the caves. "The impact of humans on caves, especially in light of of the recent bat die-offs, is unacceptable and we feel it's better that we protect the caves and never allow anyone in them, anytime, anywhere. We realize that this may be a controversial move, but until someone revises our charter to make us a caver rescue team, we feel legally and ethically bound to rescue caves, not cavers."

When asked how the charter could be revised, he admitted he wasn't sure, since the entire team at the time was out spelunking and unavailable for comment.

This is an interesting turn of events especially on the same day that cavers from TAG in Lechuguilla pushed a hole everyone else passed by and popped out in a Beijing, China neighborhood.

I know about a further trip, but must wait one year before I can spill the beans.
