Gee, L2-Medical or TOFE is looking more tempting every day! :woohoo:

You'd probably get a lot out of the L2-medical. I know I'd love to take the class.

The NCRC will be awarding two $250 dollar scholarships to help
students attend the national weeklong seminar at Mentone, AL, May 19-26, 2012. To be considered please send a caving
resume, 2 letters of support from NSS members, and a cover letter
describing your financial need and how training would benefit the
caving community in your region. Letters from grotto officers will be
given the most weight. Letters from Regional Coordinators will be given less weight. Submit your information to Roger Mortimer,
1455 N. Echo Avenue, Fresno, CA. All materials may be submitted
electronically to ncrc-scholarship@sbcglobal.net . All materials must arrive
by February 19, 2012 to be considered.

I won't be able to make it this year (had to back out of the 2010 because of a surprise medical issue that made 2011 a no-go as well...2013, perhaps?).

I'm an EMT-Intermediate (hoping to start paramedic school this summer), and have a fair bit of wilderness medicine training (WALS level). I'm wondering what the L2 medical class offers that I probably haven't already covered and what about the class requires L2 as a prerequisite. Would somebody be kind and enlighten me?

Note that the L2- Medical is a beta program, so it may or may not be offered in 2013 (and if it is, my guess is if it is offered, it'll incorporate feedback from the class this year.

But as NZCaver said, make sure to PM cavedoc directly for details.

The L2 medical class, AKA Caving and Wilderness First Aid, AKA Level 2M will incorporate a two day wilderness first aid class. Sounds like you may be beyond that already unless you're looking for a refresher. Besides that it has more in depth coverage of some rescue medicine topics like hypothermia, packaging, suspension trauma, and psychological first aid. We will do some field exercises based on medical topics and some field exercises based on a refresher on the level two technical rigging curriculum. Cliff exercises will incorporate more complex medical scenarios at the same time. The reason for the L2 prerequisite is the field exercises based on the L2 class. It is a refresher on level 2, not a complete level 2.

After the class we will look at it closely to see if/how to repeat it.

NCRC Week-long

Postby botkin02 » Feb 13, 2012 10:05 am

Is anyone from last summer's Chattanooga NCRC training session attending the week-long session in Mentone? I'm pretty sure I'm attending to take level II, and just wondering if I'll see any familiar faces.
