Good question. I don't recall moving this topic to the registered only section. I'm thinking perhaps Jay made his original post in this section and here the discussion stayed.

I read through the posts and can't see any specific reason for keeping this topic non-searchable, so I'm going to move it to the public forum. If anybody who already posted has a problem with this, please edit your post and/or let me know. My own attendance is looking very unlikely this year, but perhaps I'll finally be able to get those curriculum updates finished.

Click here for info and to sign up for the 2011 weeklong.

Scholorships applications are still open until January 16!

Excellent, thanks.

Now, how are folks getting there?

I'm looking at airfares from Albany, NY, NYC, BWI and DC areas (since I sort of work near all of them ;-)

Airfare is what's going to kill me.

Yeah it ain't cheap, that's for sure.

It's been my experience that the cheapest flights to PR go from JFK and Newark. Lots of Borinquenos in New York. Even flying from SLC or Denver, you're likely going through NY.

Just booked our flights. $488 from SLC. Ouch! But it was the best I could do after weeks of searching.

As a bonus, going through Atlanta this time instead of New York.

Puerto Rico here we come! :bananabat: :woohoo: :bananabat:

FYI, I paid more - hundreds more - to get from Alaska to Indiana for the 2009 weeklong. And again to get to the ICS in Texas. Not trying to one-up you  just adding some perspective.

Yep, don't think I'll be able to make this one.

PS Andy - I waved in your direction as I drove through SLC today. Hope to catch up properly next time! :woohoo:

Yeah, I'm actually quite pleased with getting tickets under $500. I have been watching all the flights since early December, and this is the best there is from out here. It still hurts though because I am a cheap bastard. Plus, I'm not a jet-setting high-roller like you! :big grin:

When are most flying in and out? Anyone getting a rental car? I'm looking at my options.

Bonny and I are getting into San Juan at noon on Thursday. Not getting a car unless we have to.

I would recommend flying out on Monday, so that you can go on the traditional "cast of thousands" cave trip on Sunday. If you've never been caving in PR I HIGHLY recommend this.

Well I'm registered, just have to do the flight plan details.
Wonder how long it would take to get there in a kayak...

Its about 1000 miles from the Keys and the biggest strech of open water would be 63 miles. At 25 miles a day it would take 40 days!

I'm excited that we'll be offering the Team Operations and Field Exercises (TOFE) class again this year. So, for those who have passed level 2 or 3 in the past few years, consider it as a way to get out of the classroom and spend more time in the field. We should have a great class, it's only missing you! Sign up today!
