To re-awaken this thread...did anyone else read the article in AT JOURNEYS (Appalachian Trail Conservancy magazine, Feb. 2014, pp 10-14) about graffiti and vandalism caused, not by punks, but by through-hikers? It seems there have been several incidents of vandalism, name painting, etc. by those who most use the Trail. What kind of mind looks at a pretty cave drapery or a rocky trail overlook and thinks, "this place would be perfect if it only had my initials spray-painted on it!"?
