Head of Sequatchie Spring

Postby Larry E. Matthews » Jun 13, 2013 9:39 pm

Being one of the largest karst springs in Tennessee and the headwaters of the Sequatchie River, surely someone has dived Head of Sequatchie Spring.

I am working on a book on the history of cave exploration in Grassy Cove, and of course, all the water from Grassy Cove comes out at Head of Sequatchie Spring.

Who has dived this spring? When? And, where are the Trip Reports?

Has anyone dived in nearby Devilstep Hollow Cave?

My guess would be Jason, but Marbry might actually know. I tried to dive the head spring of the Little Sequatchie, but there is no place big enough for a diver to fit. It looks really nice in the springtime, when it has water in it, but in the late summer, it is dry.
Any opinions are personal.

Well, Jason and Chrissy were my first guess, too, but they haven't been there.

Surely somebody has !!!

If not, somebody needs to go, probbly in late summer or early fall.

Well, now that I have seen the overlay of the map of Run to the Mill Cave, I see that there is about one-half mile between Head of Sequatchie and the down-stream terminal breakdown in Run to the Mill Cave.

So...........the vast majority of the unexplored Trunk Passage in the Mill Cave System will be upstream from the upstream terminal breakdown in Run to the Mill.
