Latest, or perhaps last, update from Spéléo Secours Français
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 - 8:00 PM French time.
Last night, given the general distress, the risks that would need to be taken, the complexity and the commitment necessary to recover Eric Establie’s body, the “Procureur de la République” (France’s State Prosecutor) decided not to launch a recovery operation.
Today, a final dive by the Swiss team backed by French Spéléo Secours divers took place to recover all the diving and survival equipment that remained in the cave. This mission consisted of several teams, and went as far as the 780m site of the collapse. It was held without incident.
All the diving missions were completed by this evening, and the last teams will leave the site by tomorrow morning.
The French Spéléo Secours would like to sincerely thank all the mobilized French rescuers, the British, Swiss and Italian diving teams, but also all those who have contributed in any way to this operation.
====================
Rest in peace, Eric...
