First ever cave dive in Maryland (Video)

Postby Bumbalawski » Oct 29, 2017 9:39 pm

The Murley's Branch Spring has been successfully dived this month by James Brown. This is the first and most likely only spring that has been or will ever be dived in Maryland. He made several dives. Total surveyed passage is 705 feet and total depth is 142 feet, all underwater. He will return next year to continue the dive. This particular passage does continue and goes deeper. The is another passage at 85 feet (underwater) that will also be explored. And a dry passage beyond a 40 foot sump at the entrance. The video is of his last dive at the spring this year.

Nice work James! I am surprised how clear the water was, especially on exit. I thought for sure it would be a braile exit at least part of the way.
Any opinions are personal.

Trivia Question: In how many states have there been cave dives?
I have no clue - maybe someone from the Cave Diving Section has a list of caves, springs, sumps, etc.?

I suspect that "someone" would be me. I have personally dived caves in 12 states, and I have heard of at least a dozen other states that have divable cave. AFAIK, nobody has a complete list of cave dives in the US.
Any opinions are personal.
