It is with sadness I report the news of David Comstock's passing after a several year battle with ALS.

The last time David taught was at Mentone in 2010 and was diagnosed with ALS shortly after. The NCRC made him an honorary lifetime instructor in recognition for his contributions to cave rescue and even after he was no longer able to get around on his own he was contributing to the NCRC by reviewing the cave rescue manual and making suggestions. I always enjoyed working with David over the years and found him to be a patient, quietly competent man who always had a positive attitude.

He had been missed from our ranks when his illness made him unable to attend seminars, he will now be missed from our lives.

I always liked Dave. He was in my cohort working through levels.

I was honored to have him as a Level 1 instructor in 2005. He had a wealth of knowledge and unending patience. I have thought of him often since then and will most likely continue to do so. RIP David.
