CBD Negotiates ESA Agreement with USFWS

Postby PYoungbaer » Jul 12, 2011 8:01 pm

The Center for Biological Diversity issued a press release today announcing its settlement with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to move 757 species towards Endangered Species Act protection. The agreement now has to be blessed by a judge. The agreement stipulates CBD is the prevailing party, and is entitled to reasonable attorneys' fees and judicial costs.

A full schedule of listing actions is laid out in the agreement. A Proposed Rule or a "not warranted" finding for the Eastern small-footed bat and the Northern long-eared bat is required by no later than the end of Federal Fiscal Year 2013 (Sept. 30, 2013). No mention is made of the Little brown or any other bat species.

Here's another version of the press release......

Fish and Wildlife Service Strengthens Work Plan to Restore Biological Priorities and Certainty to Endangered Species Listing Process

The Department of the Interior’s U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced today that it is further strengthening a work plan that will allow the agency to focus its resources on the species most in need of protection under the Endangered Species Act. "For more than 35 years, the Endangered Species Act has prevented the probable extinction of hundreds of species across the Nation and contributed to the recovery of many others," said Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe. "The ESA represents a commitment to protect and preserve our natural heritage out of a deeply held understanding of the direct link between the health of our ecosystems and our own well-being. This work plan will allow the Service to more effectively focus our efforts on providing the benefits of the ESA to those imperiled species most in need of protection.

I hope that they will consider adding the copperhead snake, because I haven't seen any for awhile so they must be endangered! I also haven't seen many mosquito's this year, so consideration there would be a grand gesture for humanity's sake.

I think that there should be a tax on the air we breathe, there are way to many lawyers and lawmakers that waste way to much of it! :yikes:
