A 450 will do it. But the drop is broken by ledges, and you can use a 150 and a 300 tied together without much trouble. It would be a good idea to have a look at the map and talk with someone who has rigged it before you do this.

I've just got to jump in on the gear/rope whore topic... :big grin:

Between Berta and I we have these 11mm PMI ropes:
1 - 1400'
3 - 1200'
1 - 900'
2 - 750'
1 - 200m (656')
2 - 600'
1 - 450'
1 - 400'
1 - 350'
4 - 300'
1 - 250'
many >100' to 200'

10mm Talon:
1 - 600', 1 - 300' and 2 - 150'

AND all of the ropes in the SE-NCRC gear cache stored at my house. :yikes:

Sometimes I go over to Tim & Berta's house just to look at all the gear. It's like going to REI and PMI and Petzl all at the same time.

Before the fire I personally had a little under a mile of 11mm rope. I have a lot less now :)

The truly impressive part of Tim and Berta is just how fast they can stuff a 600' rope in a bag.

I wonder if they could share any tips on the subject of stuffing rope into bags? :kewl: Pit rope just doesn't want to stuff easy

With 2.67 miles, we get a lot of practice.

This is what happens when two long time vertical caver/gear geeks get married. They produce an offspring of gear.

There's a new contest for ya—rope stuffing. But rig it so it's like hauling it up from Fantastic (heavy) and dripping with mud.

I'm a coiler, not a stuffer :)

The longest I can remember was when we hauled the rope up the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, 1600'
of rope. Our group had two. Witha z-rig and a team of folks rolling it back on the spool, it took a couple of
hours. A stuff sack would have been larger than a body bag...

Sorry for the random off topic drift, though I suppose the OP got his answer.

:off topic: :sorry:
I coil 300 footers and less, stuff the long ropes. Berta stuffs all of her ropes. (keeps the clean :big grin: )

For what it's worth, I'm a stuffer. I hate coiling. It just seems awkward to coil up and messy/twisty when you toss the rope down. Though I do chain rope sometimes, like when I used to run it through the washing machine.

My longest rope (100m) is kept overseas, so these days I either stick to short drops or share other people's ropes.

I am about to start stuffing my ropes since I cannot seem to learn the magical secret of how to make it perfectly roll out when you toss of over the side. It winds up being a twisted snake nest and then I cuss for 10 minutes trying to sort it out.

It's funny because I'm a musician and own a recording studio. I probably have several miles of instrument and connector cables. You have to wind them for storage or it will be a complete unruly mess. I have to take a 180 when it comes to rope. Stuffing a rope is a new, alien concept to me and goes against 20 years of habit.
