Dry Rope

Postby earlsuitor » Dec 23, 2005 8:32 pm

My 11mm bluewater is very dry lately. Of course it's in a heated basement, and being Winter it's a dry environment. I uncoiled it and washed it and put it in a rope bag. It's about 4 years old and in pretty good shape. When comparing it to my younger PMI it seems dry, and stiff.

Should I be concerned about that? Perhaps this is a dumb question......but it's best to ask around.

I've got a few lengths of Bluewater and they seem to be "dry" after washing in mild detergent. I use some fabric softener (Downy) now after rinsing the detergent and let them soak an hour or so, swirling in the water a couple times. Almost like new. Without the softener they have a crunchy feel to them.
