PMI Pit Rope vs PMI Classic Static

Postby Amazingracer » Feb 6, 2008 12:31 pm

Question, what's the difference between PMI Pit Rope versus the PMI Classic Static. We use both types here at Georgia Tech, and I cant seem to discover a noticeable difference(except classic static has a colored braid, and pit rope does not). Can anyone shed some light?

Is there a difference? It could be the colour, just as you suggested.

I was hoping for a definitive answer also. I believe they're the same except for the stripe.

The stripe may add coolness - in which case the classic would be the rope of choice.

I believe both ropes have the same specs. Call or email PMI Rope

[Edit] I stand corrected. I didn't realize that "Classic Static" is EZ Bend.

The only noticable description difference is that Classic Static is labeled as EZ-Bend, and Pit Rope is labeled as MAxWear. Im guessing this is abrasion resistance. But I havent seen too much difference in abrasion rates between our Pit and Classic Static ropes at Tech. I was hoping one of you guys would know the difference, but I'll just shoot PMI an email on Monday. Thanks!

The only differences I can find are:

Pit Rope only comes in 7/16", does not have a color stripe (solid white), suggested retail about 11cents less per meter

7/16" sport classic max wear, no NFPA labeling, comes with color stripe

7/16" classic static EZ Bend, the EZ Bend says it all , not as abrasion resistant, can be purchased with or without color stripe.

Those differences would only apply in certain applications, generally the same ropes

Generally I've found EZBend lives up to its name. Try tying some nice tight knots in the rope and you should find that you can get a tighter bight more easily with the EZBend over the Maxiwear.

Similarly to what was posted above, I believe the basic two static sport rope styles are

Max Wear – tighter sheath for increased abrasion durability

EZ Bend – looser sheath for improved handling

Both are available in multiple diameters and sheath color schemes.

I believe pit rope is 11mm max wear without any color strands in the sheath and is usually a little cheaper. That’s why when I was at Tech we often discussed getting different color strands for different years, but usually opted for the pit rope because of price.

:exactly:

Pit rope is made using the Classic Max Wear construction.
Classic Sport is comes standard in the E-Z Bend construction as does the Classic Professional, but can be ordered with the E-Z Bend sheath.

As has been pointed out, the only difference between Classic Sport and Classic Professional is the NFPA Certification of the Classic Professional.

The difference between the Max Wear and E-Z Bend sheath is how tight it is braded. Both are 16 carrier braids, which refers to the number of bundles of yarn that make up the sheath braid.
