Rack on Ebay

(Not my auction)

My appologies in advance for not condensing this link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/RAPPEL-RACK-CAVING- ... dZViewItem

Just noticed this new seller, with a new Russian device for sale when you search "caving". Never seen anything like it. Anyone else?

Edit: I see the new software condenses my hyperlink automatically. :bananabat:

interesting, it's a u-frame rack with the hyper bar on the wrong end...

Gary Storrick's website "Vertical devices" has a write up on the Krok rack.

5 aluminum bars, one of which is a hyper, is a TON of available friction!

I guess the bars could easily be switched around to orient the hyperbar correctly. it's a shame they're aluminum (i'd want steel), and that it costs $25 to ship from the freaking Ukraine... although reading the write-up posted above, Gary Storrick says they're STEEL bars, not aluminum. hmm.

The bars are steel and have an anodized aluminum coating.
From the ebay link:
Steel base & Anodised Aluminum 5 Bars.

I'm still puzzled by the position of the hyper bar.
I have no idea how you would use it at the bottom of the rack.

i took that to mean that the frame is steel and the bars are aluminum, but you may be correct. either way, $50 for the weird Ukranian rack seems a bit steep.

It looks to me that, the bars in the eBay picture are solid aluminum. Gary's rack looks like it may be an older version with hollow steel bars.

The hyperbar on the bottom is not a bad idea. The rope would just flip over the top bar, between the nuts, instead of out on the side with a HB. The bottom hb would just be for tying off or when you need massive amounts of friction.

The non-clicking in, swing-open bars are scary. Very scary!!! :yikes: It would be super easy to feed a small loop of rope in and have the 4th bar easily pop off leaving just two bars engaged. More about this: LINK
