Postby RT » Dec 18, 2007 2:24 am

A friend of mine ordered this mallions:

I am also interested in these MR's. They seem very cheap, so if they are good I will considor buying some.

Who knows? Any quick link (mallion) that is not CE Certified with an EN362 Fall from Heights or an EN12275 mountaineering & rock climbing certification is suspect and dangerous.

To my knowledge only Mallion Rapide of France produces a quick link that is CE Certified and meets the standards for life safety equipment.

yes, "bargain shopping for maillons" sounds more likely to be an epitaph than a good idea.

I agree with the previous comments - I wouldn't recommend those unrated maillons for rigging.

They *may* work fine, but the major difference between those cheapies and the rated ones is a far more stringent quality control and testing process.

I believe most, if not all, hardware store type maillons/quick links come with a "not for climbing" disclaimer or similar on the packaging. There's a reason for that.

Actually, Péguet makes Maillon Rapide quick links in France. (Maillon, not mallion). :nyah: :nana:

it's even worse when people say it out loud - rhymes with "scallion".

of course, i have no idea how to pronounce "maillon" anyway. so i just make sure i always say "half round" or "screw link" =)

[Quick dictionary note - maillon {my-yon}, French for link. Hence maillon rapide {my-yon rah-peed} = quick link.] :woohoo:

So in translation I really said “quick link of France produces a quick link…”

and Scott said “Péguet makes quick links quick links in France.”

And, Péguet says on the page I link earlier, "We are pleased to invite you to become familiar with Maillon Rapide quick links..." :tonguecheek:
