Shrinkage (Rope)

I was reading a few of the posts about washing ropes and it brought up a question about rope shrinkage. My 200 foot rope after a couple of years of use and washing when needed now measures 191 feet. Is rope shrinkage a regular part of vertical life?

5-10 percent shrinkage is common for nylon. Much more in this thread:
