So, who's going to be the first one to convince the tribe to let us do this drop?

I understand the walk out is a real bear! :)

Still, getting there is half the fun.

See the topic Grand Canyon glass bridge to open where Scott McCrea posted a link to satellite photo on Google Maps that shows that the free drop may be only be a few 100 feet.

Yeah, I've wondered about that 4000' quote. Does seem to be a bit of marketing.

On the other hand, could be more than a few hundred to depending on the exact location and how far out it goes.

Tell you all what. I've got plenty of time on my hands. I'll do us all a favor of checking it out first hand.

But I'll need a little help with the airfare first. :-)

Yeah, you can run Google Earth and find the site by pecking in "Grand Canyon West" in the "fly to" box. The site is north of the airport.

Then, play with the tilt feature to bring out the 3D effect and you can see that at the point where it hangs out it couldn't be more than a few hundred feet. Probably pretty intense anyway as you look through the glass and out toward the really deep parts.

But sadly no big straight drop rappel...

...maybe a "J" style? :tonguecheek:

How about a zipline? Yeah, that could be fun.

NCRC Level 2 rigging: "Ok today folks we're gonna run a droopline from the horseshoe to the canyon floor. Figure we'll need the entire cache of rope. And make sure to rig your backties well!
