Interesting Kong descender

Check this out:

For Mac

Looks like an 8 that doesn't have to be disconnected from the harness.
Caves are rare and precious things. Cavers...even more so. Treat each accordingly.

Umm, that's kind of scary. Looks like she just flicked that thing and went into freefall.

BTW, the PC link worked on my Mac. The Mac link did not.

Interesting. I'd like to see one (hands on) but I think I'll stick to the KISS system for now.

Sadly, the "Mac" version requires RealPlayer (which I steadfastly refuse to install on either my Mac or Windows machines).

I'll me much happier when more websites switch to Flash Video (a la YouTube) so I don't have to mess with this WMV/Real nonsense on my Mac :-)

I think I will stay with my Rack or my 8 plate. That looks kind of scary for caving. Just a flick of a switch and weeeeee ..... Splat. Could be a accident looking for a place to happen in the caving world. But that is just my opinion.

Yep, the DeJump is strictly a whitewater canyoning device - wouldn't use it for anything else. There is another 8-ish device out now (Figure 9), but I think it's already been discussed here.

You have a choice on how to rig it.
One way will release under load
the other will NOT release under load.

Umm... in caving applications... WHY would you want to release under load?

The double rope tech they showed had me going "SAY WHAT?"

I'm sorry but as was observed earlier here... one flick of the switch and bye bye love! Maybe for canyoneering this is a neato little device because 1. you can at least still SEE everything that's going on with your desecent... 2. A fair chance you got some nice deep pools to fall into should you go flick!
But for caving... I'm sorry... it seems too damned easy to make a mistake with that device. I probably wouldn't take anyone vertical using one of those... of course... to be fair like Grandpa I'd have to try it myself... with a short drop... over padded material.

I used to be one of those fast rappellers. But after I seen the damage on a rope and have grooved decenders I have put a stop to that. Nothing but easy decents from now on for me. Though in canyoneering it probly is fun to free fall into a pool, but the potental for injury or worse is really high. What if the pool is not as deep as it was when you last did it and that rock that was just waiting to get you last time finely got it's chance. Plus I don't like the fact of disconnecting my self completly off rope.

I agree, that a quick release is deadly in caving.
I just pointed out that it can be rigged so it would not do that.
