Regarding sand-seize, here's a best-to-worst list by Petzl locking system:

TRIACT-LOCK
SCREW-LOCK
SPINBALL
BALL-LOCK

The last two should be avoided by CP canyoneers as they freeze up VERY
easily with sand and grit. The Spinball (discontinued) is good for Class
C canyons.

I have been using the TRIACT for my descender attachment for the last 4
years and have never had a seizing problem (I have had screwgates
seize).

I like the Triact autolocking biners for rigging and for my descender but I have had people commented that cave mud will cause autolockers to jam.

So, Hank, does your comment about Triacts having fewer sand and grit caused jams than screw locks extend to cave mud?

What are other people's opinions about Triacts vs screw locks re jamming with cave mud?

I don't know, actually. I have a set of 'biners I use more or less exclusively for caving and none of them are Triact. I would think mud penetration would generally be less likely than fine grit, but just pure speculation...
