The Main Drain... Utah's deepest (to date)

At -1230 feet The Main Drain Cave continues dispite a terminal sump found at the bottom on a recent trip/push. The push team of Brandon Kowallis, Jon Jasper, Peter Hartley and several others still are finding passages and pits along the side leads apart from the main route to the bottom.
A photographic essay of their exploits can be found at http://www.brandonkowallis.com/RecentWork/RecentImages/Caves/MainDrain/source/mc-12-c.htm
Thus the journey continues.
Enjoy...

Yes this could've been placed in the Photographic section of this board but since there are a huge amount of HUGE/DEEP pits in this cave ... well...

Cool, I also appreciate the inclusion of all the settings in the last photos, kind of neat to see what was used to take these..

Fantastic! (oh no, that's in Georgia :caver: ) Thanks Ralph!

How deep are the pits in the pix? What is the air temperature? Give us some of the scoop.

There was a great article in the NSS News about Main Drain Cave a few months ago.

They are great pix and a very nice web site too. These folks are doing great work out in Utah.

I don't have the specifics (yet) but I will endeavor to get them and post details here. I do know that some of them are well over 200' with waterfalls and that PVC suits are the norm for fashion in this cave. It's rigged european style and I believe with 9mm rope.
More later when I get the scoops.

Great Photos. I was very intrigued by this one. Would some of our 'oligists care to enlighten us about it? http://www.brandonkowallis.com/RecentWo ... d2-915.htm

Thanks for posting a link to the photos. They're spectacular! When I picture Utah caves, that's not what comes to mind. Now I want to go caving out there next time I go to SLC for a backpacking trip! :o

Sure, why not. It's a conulite. [for a good reference, see Cave Minerals of the World, pp. 57-59] and a nice one at that.
