How can I fix my rope walker bungees?

Here are two images: http://imgur.com/a/c4A7I

With use, the protective sheaths have moved down and abraded off. It seems like mainly the heat shrink wrapping has widened and opened up. Is there anything I can do to protect these and keep them from coming apart on me? The only think I can think to do is tightly coil some string around the ends to armor the ends. Is this particularly dangerous? I don't carry an extra bungee. I do understand that I can slip new heat shrink over the ends, but is this really the best thing to do?

Thanks,

Rob H

My suggestion is to take all those metal clips off and tie a knot. I use bowlines in mine. Keep it simple. My guess is that the shrink wrap was there to protect clothes and skin from the sharp ends fo the metal clips. Also, shrink wrap and things that stretch (bungee, rope, etc) don't work well together.

You might try a small amount of 100% silicon sealant on just the metal ends to make them smooth or blend in.

Second that. I use barrell knots in mine and cut the tails short to keep them from getting sucked into the ascender cams. I gave up trying to secure the tails with zip ties, shrink wrap, etc., because, as Scott points out, 2 lengths of bungy bound together never want to stretch together equally.

Tie your own. Bungees cord can be boueght ago any outdoor supply stilts usually. Gettig cheap. It doesn't have to n e thick either. I use the thinnest bungee I can find that streaches 2x it's resting length. Mine is about 1/8" diameter.

I sew mine with thread. through several times, and then wrap around multiple times. I use about an inch extra to sew to the main bungee. It has always worked fine for me and lasted for years.

Wow my iPhone sucked this morning lol

What I meant to say was. You can buy bungee cord at almost any outdoor sporting store. It doesn't have to be thick. Mine is 1/8" thick.
