LOL Kent,

Amy is caving nearly every weekend in TAG and has already done several british caves, bridge day and whitesides. She also does capiopera SP? a martial arts dancing thing. Technique aside, she does quite a lot :)

I'm afraid that loose configuration would play havoc on the skin, especially on a drop of any distance. Another problem with a loose harness is that it present an opportunity for the D-ring to rotate thus putting a strain perpendicular to the loading axis and against the gate "cross loaded". I wouldn't advise it.

I agree with a loose harness not being ideal for frogging, but D-rings are rated for cross loading on the gate. Other than being potentially awkward and non-symmetrical, it should not be a safety issue.

KENTO wrote:It seems to me that this person has done quite a bit of practicing in the safe at home environment where she could be lowered to the ground. I would expect that this technique and equipment will allow her to take on simple open air drops of no great depth... But really, if she just sprinkles in a couple of trips a year to say an 80 foot pit that is led by an experienced vertical trip leader... Hope she keeps it up enough that she get's in a little better shape and shows us doubters what for.

Comments are at odds with her own thread in UKcaving, if it's the same Amy (and perhaps its not);

"I"m the only one I know in this area with the experience and training to do long rope... I'm on the team that holds world long rope records...."

Interesting UK caving forum topic. I did not know that.

If it isn't the same person, then someone is impersonating her.

This sentence floored me:

"...Offhand though, so that's five total females i know of in the entire united states who are well trained for long rope.."

Huh?

I hope she didn't show up at Chickfest this weekend talking that kind of smack. There are plenty of hardcore, female cavers there that will politely correct her.

AW QUIT IT!!

Look Amy has found a system that works for her bodyshape, WHOO HOO, big deal!

I've got a vertical steup that works perfectly (for me), its almost the same as everyone uses over here, but with a few tweaks.

I'm happy using it, my caving buddies know that, they're happy with what they use, no arguments!

Stop nitpicking and get out there and use what you got, where its needed.

PEACE!

wormster out!
