Over the Edge needs rope volunteers. Check out the Event Schedule and come out and volunteer. For a day and half of your time, you get a free rappel off of a tall building and won’t get arrested!

You could be helping 40 – 100 participants, who are raising money for worthy non-profit organizations such as Special Olympics, Big Brother Big Sisters and others rappel a tall building in a city near you.

While not caver techniques (OTE is a rope access company), many of the staff and volunteers are cavers. Myself, Jeff and Nina Martin, Darien Dopp, Roy Becker, Glenn Segrest, Rebecca Land Segrest, Mel Eady, Chris “Howdy” Davis work for OTE (you will even find Berta at a couple of events).

Contact Rebecca (rlsegrest@overtheedgeusa.com) if you need more information about being an OTE Rope Volunteer.

I did this and had a great time. Will do again when the stars line up the right way.

I volunteered at a couple of events too. Lots of fun, and all for a good cause. :woohoo:

I heard about this on the radio last year in St. Louis, didn't know I could volunteer to help> I'd totally do it if I wasn't already committed to going to TAG and Bridge Day Safety two of the three weekends that missouri has the events.

Too bad there is nothing out in the NW like Utah or Idaho. The Perrine Bridge in Twin Falls, ID is 486ft tall over the Snake River, remember Knievel trying to jump across it in his skycycle? Id love to get a chance to rappel it, legally. They dont allow rappelling but it is the only bridge in the US that is open to BASE jumping all year long, why can you jump off of it unattached but not rappel down a rope?

I'm pretty sure OTE only does building rappels, not bridges. I remember passing through Twin Falls a couple of years ago, and chatting with a BASE jumper on the walkway under the bridge. Seems weird people are permitted to do that, but no rappelling.

OTE is looking at a couple of bridges... but not that one. Find us a non-profit that wants an event there and we can see what can be done. :woohoo:

Hopefully this works: Ian (12) and I (>> 12 years old) doing OTE at Albany back in August. Had a blast. He loved helping out and I had a great time too.

I'd love to help out at future ones, just a matter of time and money.

Hey Mike, you missed it by a month. It was 360 feet of fun at the Grand Hyatt on the harbor. Try next year!

Well, that's typical! I'll keep an eye out for the next one.

I'm so glad to have learned about this opportunity through Cave Chat, and I've volunteered to help in Philadelphia!
