Hey y'all,

I wrote this for the TSA web page -- feedback /discussions are welcome...

Very well written, with some good rationale for your choices while also acknowledging different options and personal preferences. Good work - thanks for sharing!

Basically the same as my frog system except I use the longer of my double cowstails as my upper ascender tether, and use compact keylocks with screwgates so I can lock my cowstail carabiners if necessary.

PS - when I first read "TSA website" I was thinking something completely different.

Nicely written David! I am always surprised at how many cavers have improperly tuned frog systems. Hopefully your article will help to get people off to a good start.

Just one question: Why use a "K" to spell carabiner? I found this kind of distracting and felt that it detracted from an otherwise excellent article.

The version with the "k" is often seen here in Europe:

From http://www.merriam-webster.com:

Origin of CARABINER
German Karabiner, short for Karabinerhaken, literally, carabineer's hook
First Known Use: 1920

Well that would explain it, since David is from Germany...

I had no idea.

Yep - krabs, abseiling, Halbmastwurfsicherung... the German language is to blame for all that and more. :tonguecheek:

I'll make sure to fix the "k" in a future version... Funny enough you are the first one to point that out. Thanks! :-)
