Titanium Micro Rack Frame

Postby Lava » Mar 17, 2006 1:14 pm

I am going to have a titanium frame made for my BMS Micro Rack. If anyone can recommend the correct Ti alloy for this purpose, I'd be grateful. Something with a minimum cold bending radius smaller than that of the rack frame so as not to introduce stress fractures into the rod.

I found this old thread on the topic, and Mark620 recommends 6AL-4V titanium:

Mark, did your experiments with this metal work out, and do you still think it's the correct alloy to use for a rack frame?

How much weight do you anticipate this will save? How much do you think it will cost? Sounds cool. If it works well, I might want one too.

I have no idea how much weight it will save or how much it will cost. I'm probably just doing this because I'm neurotic.

I have a friend with facilities and metalworking experience who is going to do it for me.
