Camp pilot ascender

Has anyone ever used this ascender? I wonder how comparable the action is tO the petzl handled ascender.

So despite no responses, i recently bought the camp pilot handled ascender. Quality looks good, very easy to open the cam, and I catches instantly when weighted. Also very easy to advance on rope.
I like it and it's alot cheaper than the petzl

Cool. So, since no one else seems to have experience with it. Maybe, you could post your thoughts on its in-cave performance.

How much did you get it for? I'm not seeing it for less than $65 anywhere... not too much cheaper than the petzl. I will say right off the bat that I like having two holes in the base of the petzl, whereas the Camp appears to only have one.

I agree the second hole would be nice. As far as price I didnt even realize its so close to the petzl. I get pro pricing so I wasn't even aware. That's all I can really say about thAt.

I will be sure to post it's performance. So far it seems it advances very easy along the rope. Buy that was with thin clean rope.

That is the one thing is that the teeth on the Petzl are super aggressive when it's new. Of course all you need to do is run it over several thousand feet of rope and it'll dull those teeth down no problem!

Aggressive teeth are nice to have on really muddy or icy ropes. Haven't seen the Pilot ascender yet, but I think I have enough gear for right now. :big grin:

New equipment reviews are always welcome on the forum...

I know a few people that use them and they really like them. I have used a friends a time or 2. I really like these, i will be getting a new set of ascenders soon and will more than likey get these. when you are in heavy mud i find that these are easier to open one handed than the petzl. And as far as the 2 holes goes. ive only had to use the second hole in my petzl once. I hope you like yours and cant wait to hear about it after some use
