Video - Bolt climbing trip to Butterscotch Dome in Zicafoose

Participants: Bob Kirk(WV), Keith Sweeney(VA), Mark Passerby(MI), and Chris
Beare(WA)

This bolt climb hopefully will be completed on August 1, 2009. It is a massive
area and with any luck we will find our way up and into a nice area of upper
level passages above Culverson Canyon.

Filming was done with a Aiptek A-HD+ modified with a wide angle lens. Lighting
was from 2 or 3 one million candlepower spotlights with a Glad Plastic Bowl
fitted over the front and covered with a single layer piece of a Walmart plastic
bag. This method worked fantastic and we hope for even better results as we move
to the Flip MinoHD that films in 720p.

The MinoHD promises to be the ultimate caving camera. See article I wrote on
hacking your Flip MinoHD at http://hdhat.com/flip-video.html . The MinoHD does
even better in lowlight than the Aiptek A-HD+.

Excellent video and the quality is superb. I must admit, tho, it made me tired and my arms ache watching it.

Very nice video Mark! Are you going to take more video on Aug 1?

I would love to see more of the Raumer in action. I assume that Bob was not using the up stick to its full potential in this video as his attachment point seems to be level or only slightly higher than the anchor. Was this to get a couple pieces of protection below him before he started to really put a lot of axial force on the anchors? Do you use longer bolts because of the added force with the Raumer?

Good luck!

The raumer stick was used a bit at the very bottom but did not win favor with Bob at all. The more things you add the more things get exponentially complex :) . I might have some usable footage of that but it was kinda messy and it wore Bob out so he switched to that which he was most familiar and boogey'd up.
