Whoo me dizzy. Stop the spinning! It's almost like rapping down Stupendous Pit (-201') on a steel 8... round and round I go! Wheeeee!

Damn, that would have made me throw up...
I love a rack and a nice straight piece of rope.

Interesting... I'm assuming the spinning effect is added in the post-processing stage. If not, there would probably be some vomit in the cave to match the vomit on our keyboards! :eyecrazy:

The effect was caused by the spinning rope, as I lowered and raised the camera. Nothing was done post-filming other than adding the credits.

I stand corrected.

What caused the rope to spin so much? Was it a rappel rope, or cord? And what camera and lighting were you using? Just curious...

I've had several various ropes cause the spin. Worse one I've been on was that old green military braided gold line. Sheesh. Talk about puke factor.

Yeah, tell me about it! :yikes: I guess what I'm really trying to ask the videographer pedenpeden is if he/she intended the camera to be spinning, and if he/she had any control over the rate of spin.

I was using my Olympus Stylus 770SW - a great little digital camera waterproof to 33 ft., shockproof, etc. I had it duck-taped to thin twine which ran through a hole toward one end of a 5 foot stick of wood. A buddy held the stick out over the pit while I lowered and retrieved the rope. I had no idea how the pit would appear, and wasn't concerned about the anticipated spinning. I was just experimenting. It was a surprise to see this interesting result.

You can see me using it early on in the video entitled "Vertical Caving Part 1" on YouTube.

Hey, I started vertical caving on Goldline, and until PMI and Bluewater came out, I thought that's the way pits were supposed to look like on the way down....and up!!! :barff:
:big grin:
