V.I.O. P.O.V. 1 Camera website & Review

Postby cavescom » Mar 22, 2008 10:58 pm

A reference to this camera got posted on another group so thought I would pass it along. It appears to be very good for low light and waterproof.

http://www.vio-pov.com and the products page on their site has a bunch of FAQ's

**Full review and manual: http://tinyurl.com/2u47h5

**Apparently they will have a wide angle lense version out in May 08 and another sometime in the future with HD quality.

Some Sample video from the V.I.O. POV.1 is here
http://www.actioncameras.co.uk/VIO_POV1.html (the link in is the
lower right....this is an uncompressed video sample that is
astoundingly steady and great resolution...) my suggestion is to
right click the link and "save target as" then save the .avi to your
computer and use Windows Media Player or DivX player to play...you
may need the DivX codecs to play which can be gotten at http://www.divx.com

Other Samples:
1) http://www.kbvp.com/extreme-videos/vio-pov-1-g-force
2) http://youtube.com/watch?v=9BAUCg5VLjA
3) Low Light Sample http://youtube.com/watch?v=GihJNCJhAys
4) Night Snowboarding http://youtube.com/watch?v=s8sN65ArldQ
5) http://youtube.com/watch?v=z7r_plvKCYo

**Remember the YouTube samples are converted to .flv files so quality
is low. The .avi sample at the beginning of this email shows the
true quality of the video captured.

This should be the ultimate cave bullet cam....rugged, waterproof,
and good in low light.

I spoke to VIO today and they are completely sold out till May but I will have one then to review. Everything that is shipped from now on from them will be the newer Wide Angle version with improved video quality.

I also spoke with Oregon Scientific today and she mentioned a main competitor of theirs is: http://www.goprocamera.com/ which looks real...nice but a bit different to mount. Would be nice to see some lowlight samples from this.

I also found this but it isn't waterproof just resistant: http://www.vholdr.com/shoot/camera/overview

Heh, technology is wonderful and so is captialism which makes one company trying to build the better mousetrap. If the first camera mentioned in this thread isn't THE holy grail of helmet cams for us cavers... there will be one, and that right soon. :kewl:
