New pit discovery photos

Postby Ralph E. Powers » Aug 10, 2006 6:50 pm

Here are the photos of a new shaft discovered by one of our cavers while hiking. We went the following wendsday to explore it. Turned out to be a mine-shaft that broke into natural cave. The estimated depth is approximately 115 feet.

As to the photos taken by Michael Mimebach, yes I know in one or two shots you can see the rope off the pad... Sigh.. I was already down inside and didn't realize this. Tamie was notified when one of the others saw the rope off the pad and she managed to get her weight off the rope enough for the others to re-pad it.

All in all a good trip.

I had brought down the extra rope because we didn't know the exact depth ... but we didn't have to use it...

Oh sooner or later we'll re-orient the photos to right side up. For the time being just... turn your head (or monitor) on it's side for the vertical pics.
