Has anyone used their iPhone underground with the new Night Mode setting? What's your experience been? What kind of lighting did you use? What distance to the subject worked or was too far?

Rather than an iPhone, many cavers use a headlamp with different intensity levels selectable. For sitting or resting or eating a snack, I need only 5-10 lumens. For a small passage with crawling, I need only 50-100 lumens. For a large passage with features to look for (like survey markers), I need 1000 or more lumens. If I need to do photography with continuous light, then I use 10,000 lumens.

I think he's asking about using the iPhone for taking cave photos, not for using as a flashlight.

Either it was a joke - or some people just should not be allowed around technology!
Then again, I have some old photo cubes I could sell him... :big grin:

I've been wondering the same thing. My boys have iPhone 11's that work amazingly well in a huge range of conditions. Their results continue to amaze me. And while I absolutely love my DSLR w/remote flashes, and never thought I'd be asking this, could my rig be replaced by an iPhone and 4-5 wide-beam adjustable LED lights?? After all, aren't cameras, lights, and technology all tools for the creative process? Has anyone had any experience using iPhones for more than just snapshots?? (FYI - I am very much pro DSLR, but I think this is an important discussion topic)
