HD waterproof camera with optical zoom?

Postby 2.0 » Sep 24, 2013 3:42 pm

Hello all,

I'm looking for some feedback to see if anybody has a waterproof HD video camera, with optical zoom, that is under $300. Does something with any durability exist out there? I'm looking for a camera that can be used above and below ground for my little video side projects. I don't plan to take it through tight/low airspace watercrawls, that's what my Gopro is for. :woohoo: I just want something with a nice zoom that I can pack into and use in a cave, where the humidity and water splashes won't fry the thing after a few times. Anybody have any suggestions?

what about a good waterproof photocamera with good HD video ?

- canon D20 for example.

I use the earlier version, the canon D10 for my caving trips - in all conditions.

I carry an Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 underground with me. It's a 14 megapixel camera that does video and stills, has a couple of pretty decent macro settings plus is fairly programmable. It's also water proof to 5 meters, and shock proof for a 1.5 meter drop...I've tested both of these attributes repeatedly (not necessarily deliberate, either.) The camera looks like hell, and even has a dent in it, but it still takes decent pictures. The only downside is that it uses a proprietary battery.

The new Nikon 1 AW 1 might fit the bill. I was about to start a thread on it alone.
