Has anyone found any caving films that are realistic and not blown out off proportion (Hollywood). Ive found Mysteries of Underground (National Geographic) ,Journey Into Amazing Caves (IMAX), and Cave of Forgotten Dreams.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Look for the mcbrides cave rescue. Don't get no mor realistic and no bs than that. It was a documentary recreation on tv. I have it on DVD.

One of the better speleo documentary (imo) is "A Travers la Pierre". It gives a nice overview about one of the mythic traverses on the PSM.

The leader of this project is a good friend of mine. And while it's about cave diving, it's such a cool video that dry cavers would like it, too. It's all about pushing a tight lead, and some local history thrown in. It won a Merit Award in this year's NSS Video Salon.

The video was made by a local filmmaker, so while it costs $20, it feels like I'm helping a friend, than dumping wasted money into a giant corporation.

I've lent my copy to people from work and they've enjoyed it, too, if creeped out a little by it! Non-cavers!

I highly recommend any films made by British caver Sid Perou. He made quite a few caving films on commision from the BBC and others.

I'm not sure how easy it would be able to get hold of any, but he was selling quite a few of them on DVD (PAL format) recently.

Cascades of the Night by Sid Perou is one of the best caving films I've ever seen. It won an award at the 1st Speleo Film Festival in Vercors, France back in the 70's. I have had no luck finding a copy of it. The original title is in French, too.

I really like Andy Sparrow's two cave films Solo and A Rock and a Hard Place. They are a lot of fun to show at grotto meetings and are both available through the NSS AV Library. "What the quarry giveth, the quarry taketh away. ( Boom)"

Yes, Andy Sparrow's films are also excellent - I had forgotten about them. I was at the first showing of A Rock and a Hard Place in the caving area shown in the film and visited the caves portrayed in the film, so I shouldn't have forgotten!

You can always look up "Texas Caver" a film about the texas caving culture / community and our impact on the exploration of the deep caves in mexico.
