Downhole camera

Postby hydrogeoscott » Dec 12, 2011 12:20 am

A friend of mine has a friend who tried to have a well drilled on his property. The story goes that the driller encountered a void at a depth of 80 feet, then lowered drill pipe until it bottomed out at a depth of 200 feet. The depth to water in wells in this area is about 400 feet, so if the void exists it should be air filled. The property is on limestone, so a cave is possible. The driller moved over several hundred feet and completed a new well, the original well still exists, and the landowner is receptive to a bit of investigation. The borehole is 4 inches in diameter. Does anyone know of a inexpensive downhole camera that would be suitable for looking into a 4-inch borehole? Has anyone assembled such a camera from parts, such as an inexpensive security camera system? Thanks.

Contact John Lyles... he's out your way. He made one some years back, & with technology changes it should be easier today.
