North Carolina (please click on the image because you can only see about half of the image without clicking on it)

Lol, hopefully it doesn't take over a year for someone to take a guess for my cave picture. I decided to do North Carolina because it is one of the states that has not been done yet by anyone so far on this topic. It is technically not one picture though. It is technically four pictures that I have stitched together.

The answer to my picture was Rumbling Bald Cave which is across the gorge from Bat Cave (the longest cave in North Carolina). And I am going to say that John's picture is of Engle Double Pit.

No, Caving Guru, not Engle Double. But I wish someone would post a shot of Engle Double - lovely cave! The one I posted is over 200' deep.

Valhalla? It'd have to be at night, since Valhalla is an open-air pit.

Sorry, Stephen, not Valhalla.

Hmm...not much interest in this thread. Too bad; I think it is great fun. Ah, well.

And this one is easy - over 200' - how many of those are there in Jackson Co.? One more hint - Chad would enjoy seeing it.

At least 24 such pits in Jackson County... I've been waiting with interest for someone to answer, it's a fine looking pit.

It's not just this thread though, the entire forum is a ghost town. With only very small handful of regular visitors, it's hard to a get much response to anything. I guess Cavechat's real value now is as an archive of helpful information.

Is't Little Morgue Pit, Fern Cave?

The Little Morgue Pit is a nice pit, but I always thought it was 188' - big ledge - 35' to deep guano. And this isn't that. Nor is it the 200'er into the West Room. Not in that system at all.

This forum does seem like a ghost town. What happened? WNS? I'm going to let that die down a bit more before I go caving again. The decontamination is burdensome and seems pointless, so I just blew it all off and stopped going caving.

It was a wild guess based on photos. Little Morgue is listed at 208' by Bob Gulden, but pit depth is another of those vague and controversial subjects...

I think that Facebook and other such media have taken much of the old traffic, and the dozen or so people that used to post very regularly no longer do. There also haven't been any new, ignorant, motor-mouths (I'm thinking of myself here) to stir things up and ask lots of questions for a long time. As for WNS... if the decon is burdensome and pointless, why not blow the decon off and keep caving? Most informed people with a reasonable view of the subject (including many previous sticklers representing various government agencies) have accepted that it's a waste of time and energy for cavers to worry too much about WNS. It hasn't got anything much to do with us, and will happen as it happens.

Ha! Couldn't agree more regarding WNS. And pit depths. I've seen a well-known pitter include sinkholes in the pit depth to enhance his 100'+ list.

I do not do Facebook; it does not sit well with me. Keep posting here and I will read your trip reports; they have feeling.

The pit is Megawell, BTW.

Hasn't Mega Well been closed for a while? When was it closed again?
